Kawhi Leonard and Malcolm Thomas posted double-doubles to help No. 6 San Diego State outlast UNLV 55-49 at home Wednesday night to remain undefeated.
Leonard scored 15 points and grabbed 18 rebounds and Thomas recorded 14 and 16 to pace the Aztecs (18-0, 3-0 Mountain West), who controlled the paint and outrebounded UNLV 40-30.
San Diego State stretched a two-point half time lead to 41-30 with 12:51 left. Billy White made two 3-pointers during the run before UNLV responded with a run of its own to close the deficit to five points with 2:49 left in the game.
Poor shooting down the stretch doomed the Rebels, who shot just 1 of 17 from the 3-point line. Leonard hit two free throws to secure the win for the Aztecs, who face New Mexico and Air Force before a Jan. 26 showdown at No. 10 BYU.
UNLV (13-4, 1-2) was led by Anthony Marshall, who scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds off the bench. The Rebels have lost two of their past three games.
