A 26-point, 14-rebound effort from Derrick Williams propelled Arizona to an 83-57 victory over New Mexico State on Thursday night in Tucson, Ariz.
After a cold start, the Wildcats (2-0) scored 14 consecutive points in less than four minutes to take a 21-9 lead midway through the first half. Down 35-26 at the midway point, the Aggies (2-1) remained within striking distance until Arizona put together a 9-2 spurt to effectively ice it at 66-48 with 5:28 left.
The Wildcats took advantage of a 22-9 rebounding edge in the first half, when Williams alone had 16 points and nine boards.
Troy Gillenwater finished with 25 points for New Mexico State.
