CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Hornets are home for the rest of November, and they're excited about the opportunity to get on a roll.
The Hornets opened a seven-game homestand with a 116-111 victory over the Brooklyn Nets Wednesday night, as guard Nicolas Batum scored 24 points to lead seven players in double figures.
The Hornets are now 4-1 at home, are back to .500 overall at 6-6 and have won four of their last six.
"It's a great opportunity ahead of us," Charlotte center Al Jefferson said. "We'll get to have our fans behind us for a while. We've been doing a lot of in and out, in and out traveling, so it's good to have a little homestand. We've been good so far at home and hopefully we'll continue to find ways to win, like we did tonight."
The Hornets will face Philadelphia, Sacramento, Washington, Cleveland, Milwaukee and Golden State during the homestand and won't go back on the road again until Dec. 5 at Chicago.
"To be a good team, obviously, you have to win at home," Hornets coach Steve Clifford said. "This is good because we've been traveling so much, your practice isn't good. You're getting in at 2:30 (a.m.), you're practicing at noon or just walking through, and it's hard particularly early in the year to stay in rhythm with that kind of schedule. So guys should be better in these next two weeks."
The Hornets opened the fourth quarter with a 13-4 spurt after the teams were tied 86-86 after three and never trailed again. The Nets got as close as four in the final minute and twice had missed two chances to cut the lead to but ultimately forward Marvin Williams' two free throws with 17.3 seconds left pushed the Charlotte lead to six and ended the suspense.
The Hornets had lost at New York on Tuesday, and Clifford liked the way they responded.
"That was a good bounce-back win for our team," Clifford said. "It was a back-to-back for both teams, but I felt, especially in the second half, we fought hard. We made the plays we had to."
Batum has now scored 20 or more in four of his last five games. He had struggled with 1 of 9 shooting for four points in the loss at New York Tuesday, but was 7 of 12 Wednesday night with three 3-pointers.
"We had a bad game last night," Batum said. "We had no energy, no intensity last night. We tried to bring it tonight. It took us one half, but we were able to do it."
Jefferson finished with 18 points and eight rebounds and guard Kemba Walker also scored 18 with seven rebounds and seven assists. The Hornets also got 14 points and nine rebounds from Williams, 13 points and nine rebounds from guard Jeremy Lin, 12 points from center Spencer Hawes, and 11 points from forward Frank Kaminsky.
The Hornets shot 48.8 percent from the field and held a 49-37 rebound edge, allowing Brooklyn just five offensive rebounds all night.
Forward Thaddeus Young led the Nets (2-10) with 27 points and eight rebounds. Center Brook Lopez scored 23, and guard Jarrett Jack and forward Joe Johnson scored 16 each.
"We had every chance to win that game, and it slipped by us," Young said.
"This was another hard-fought game," Nets coach Lionel Hollins said. "The team played extremely hard and extremely well for the circumstances. I thought we were going to have a chance to pull it out in the end, but we didn't. We just didn't finish. That's the league. Sometimes you do, and sometimes you don't."
