Andrew Wiggins added 15 points and Nikola Pekovic finished with 14 points and eight rebounds for Minnesota, which outrebounded the Hawks 50-36 but has won just seven of 21 games this season when gathering the same or more rebounds than its opponent.
The Timberwolves led by seven three different times during the first half of the second quarter, but couldn’t build on the cushions and Atlanta took a 57-53 lead into the break after scoring the final five points of the opening half. The Hawks then scored the first seven points of the second half — the final three on a 3-pointer by Korver — and the lead had ballooned to 64-53.
Thaddeus Young and Pekovic made two field goals each during a 2 1/2-minute stretch of the third quarter to keep Minnesota within single digits, but the Timberwolves then went without a field goal for nearly five minutes and the Hawks surged ahead 84-66 on Carroll’s 3-pointer with 2:24 left in the third. Minnesota scored six of the last eight points of the third to get within 14, but the Timberwolves couldn’t wiggle back within single digits.
