Teoscar Hernandez hit two home runs, including a grand slam in the eighth inning, as the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled away for an 11-3 victory over the host New York Yankees on Saturday night.
Hernandez hit his fifth career grand slam when he connected off Tommy Kahnle to give the Dodgers an 8-2 lead. Mookie Betts walked to lead off the eighth, and Shohei Ohtani reached on an error by second baseman Gleyber Torres, his 10th error of the season.
After Kahnle struck out Freddie Freeman and walked Will Smith, Hernandez launched his 424-foot shot into the Los Angeles bullpen beyond the left field fence.
It was Hernandez's second multi-homer game of the season and 18th of his career. His heroics came one night after his two-run double in the 11th gave Los Angeles a 2-1 win in the series opener.
Hernandez also had an RBI groundout in the sixth on Saturday after Freeman doubled to left field. The outfielder tied a career high by driving in six runs.
Enrique Hernandez broke a 2-2 tie with a homer in the fifth inning off New York starter Nestor Cortes (3-5), and Ohtani contributed an RBI single as Los Angeles won for the eighth time in 11 games.
Freeman padded the lead in the ninth with a two-run double, and rookie Andy Pages drew a bases-loaded walk against New York utilityman Oswaldo Cabrera.
Aaron Judge hit a pair of solo homers, upping his major league lead to 23, but the Yankees lost their first series loss since dropping three of four at Baltimore bridging April and May.
The Yankees were without Juan Soto for the second straight game as the slugger is day-to-day with left forearm inflammation.
Los Angeles starter Gavin Stone (7-2) allowed two runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two.
Stone exited after issuing a four-pitch walk to ninth-place hitter Trent Grisham in the sixth. Alex Vesia retired Anthony Volpe to end the inning, and he pitched a 1-2-3 seventh.
Cortes allowed four runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. The left-hander struck out four and walked one.
