Noah Syndergaard pitched eight strong innings, Jared Walsh homered and doubled, Brandon Marsh had three hits and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Texas Rangers 5-3 on Tuesday night in Anaheim, Calif.

The eight innings marked Syndergaard's longest outing since returning from Tommy John surgery late last season and his longest since he went eight innings on May 14, 2019, against Washington.

He struck out five and did not walk a batter. Syndergaard didn't even have a three-ball count in the game while facing 27 batters.

The right-hander held a shutout until Jonah Heim homered leading off the eighth, but he finished the inning before handing the ball to Aaron Loup to begin the ninth. Loup got the first two outs before allowing a solo homer to Mitch Garver and a walk to Kole Calhoun, prompting Angels manager Joe Maddon to summon closer Raisel Iglesias.

Adolis Garcia doubled home Calhoun, but Iglesias struck out Heim to end it and earn his 11th save.

Syndergaard (4-2) was perfect for 4 1/3 innings, retiring the first 13 Rangers until Garcia singled with one out in the fifth. Heim followed with another single, but Syndergaard worked his way out of the jam.

Rangers starter Dane Dunning (1-3) held the Angels scoreless until giving up four runs in the fourth inning.

Walsh led off the Angels' fourth with a double and went to third on a single by Matt Duffy. Luis Rengifo grounded out to first to drive in Walsh with the first run of the game, and Marsh followed with an infield single. Shortstop Corey Seager's throwing error allowed Duffy to score, putting the Angels up 2-0.

Angels catcher Matt Stassi, just back from the injured list, hit a ground-rule double to left, moving Walsh to third. Walsh scored on Tyler Wade's bunt single, and Stassi scored on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Velazquez, increasing the Angels' lead to 4-0.

Walsh's solo homer in the fifth made it 5-0.

The Angels finished with 12 hits, including two each from Mike Trout, Walsh, Duffy and Stassi.
