CHICAGO -- Wil Myers went 3-for-4 and clubbed go-ahead, three-run homer as the San Diego Padres rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday afternoon.

The seventh-inning homer by the center fielder, his first of the season, gave San Diego its third straight win and sixth in seven games in the opener of a three-game weekend series at Wrigley Field.

Padres starter James Shields (2-0) worked six innings for the win and reliever Craig Kimbrel picked up his fourth save.

Cubs reliever Brian Schlitter worked 1/3 of an inning and took the loss.

Friday was also the major league debut of Cubs prospect Kris Bryant, called up from Triple-A Iowa after two third basemen landed on the disabled list.

Bryant, who hit .321 with three homers and 10 RBIs in seven games at Iowa, struck out three times and grounded out once.

But he was sure-handed on the field. Bryant picked up a fifth-inning grounder with his bare hand and made an on-target throw to first that was just a half-second late. He later handled a sharp liner and threw to first for an inning-ending out.

The Cubs scored twice in the third after right-hander Jason Hammel led off with a double.

Second baseman Jonathan Herrera's bunt and a Padres error led to Hammel coming home. Herrera, meanwhile, moved to third on center fielder Dexter Fowler's fielder's choice grounder and scored as Shields' wild pitch bounced back to the wall in back of home plate.

The Padres got both runs back on third baseman Will Middlebrooks' homer with two outs in the fourth. Middlebrooks' shot -- his second of the season -- came on a 1-2 pitch and drove home first baseman Yonder Alonso to knot the score at 2.

The Cubs reclaimed a two-run lead in the fifth as Herrera scored from second on right fielder Jorge Soler's base hit and first baseman Anthony Rizzo later doubled to score Fowler.

Myers two-out homer, his first of the season, drove in second baseman Jedd Gyorko and shortstop Alexi Amarista to open a 5-4 lead.

Fowler led off the Cubs' seventh with a ground-rule double to left that Maers and Upton claimed got lost in ivy branches.

The ball, however, was clearly visible as Fowler kept running for what he figured would be an inside-the-park homer. But replay officials in New York confirmed the umpires' call in Chicago.

Hammel worked 6 1/3 innings and left with the lead but ended with no decision as Schlitter gave up the three-run homer to Myers.

Hammel (1-1) gave up four runs and seven hits, struck out five and walked one.

Shields was pulled for a pinch-hitter in the seventh but still picked up the win. In six innings, he gave up four runs (three earned) and five hits, struck out nine and walked two.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon was ejected for the first time this season after arguing balls and strikes in the seventh.
