ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Los Angeles Angels jumped on Texas spot starter Anthony Ranaudo for six runs in the second inning on their way to a 10-2 victory over the Rangers on Wednesday.

The Angels batted around in the second, with second baseman Johnny Giavotella starting the scoring with a two-run single to left-center. Shortstop Erick Aybar's sacrifice bunt pushed the lead to 3-0 and designated hitter Albert Pujols followed with run-scoring single under Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus' glove.

Left fielder Matt Joyce capped the second-inning scoring and ended the day for Ranaudo with a two-run double to left-center.

The six runs were more than enough support for left-hander Hector Santiago. Santiago, who had a 5.93 ERA against Texas last season, pitched seven innings and allowed just one run on four hits. He struck out five and walked two during his 103-pitch outing.

That performance was a lot better than Ranaudo's. The former first-rounder, who was acquired from the Boston Red Sox in the offseason, retired just five batters, walked two and allowed six hits and six earned runs.

Angels center fielder Mike Trout had three hits, including an RBI single in the fourth inning, and now has hits in all nine games this season. The Angels finished with 13 hits, and Pujols, Giavotella, David Freese and Joyce each had two RBI.

The Rangers avoided the shutout in the fifth inning on a solo homer to right by catcher Carlos Corporan. Infielder Adam Rosales snapped an 0-for-24 slide with a homer in the ninth inning.

Texas had just six hits and has now scored three runs or less in six of its first 10 games. The Rangers, who head west for an eight-game trip, finished their first homestand 2-4.

NOTES: The Rangers haven't activated RHP Tanner Scheppers (ankle) from the disabled list yet, but he will travel with the team Thursday to Seattle and is expected to be activated Friday. The Rangers could go with eight relievers on the road trip as they have three off days in the next eight days. ... Texas went with its third leadoff hitter in the last three games Wednesday, with CF Delino DeShields Jr. joining Leonys Martin and Rougned Odor. DeShields, who made his first major-league start against Houston, is the first Rangers player to start in the leadoff spot that early in his career since Julio Borbon did it in his fourth game in 2009. ... Angels RHP Garrett Richards (left knee surgery) cleared what should be the final hurdle before returning to the rotation. In a rehab start Tuesday night, Richards threw 91 pitches for Triple-A Salt Lake City, allowing five runs, walking four and striking out five in five innings. The Angels haven't decided on a Sunday starter yet but that would be Richards' regular throwing day. ... The Angels sent RHP Drew Rucinski, who was the losing pitcher Tuesday against the Rangers, to Salt Lake City. The Angels purchased the contract of LHP Adam Wilk to take Rucinski's spot. Wilk, 27, hasn't appeared in the majors since the 2012 season with Detroit.
