Rays 2, Brewers 1: Rookie Jake Odorizzi allowed one run in seven strong innings to win his third straight start for host Tampa Bay in the opener of the three-game interleague series.
James Loney drove in both runs with a bases-loaded single in the sixth inning to lift the surging Rays to their 10th win in 11 games. Odorizzi (7-8) gave up three hits, including a pair of infield singles, and retired 14 of the final 15 batters he faced.
Mark Reynolds belted a solo homer for Milwaukee, which lost for the third time in four contests and had its lead over St. Louis in the National League Central cut to 1 1/2 games. Kyle Lohse (11-5) gave up two runs on four hits over six innings to fall to 7-3 away from home.
Reynolds supplied the first run - and hit - of the game when he lofted a pitch from Odorizzi into the seats in left field in the third inning for his team-high 18th homer. Lohse, who walked four batters in his previous four starts, sandwiched a pair of free passes around Matt Joyce's single to load the bases in the sixth.
Loney followed by looping a single to right-center to plate Ben Zobrist and Joyce with the tying and go-ahead runs. Brad Boxberger relieved Odorizzi in the eighth and fanned all three batters he faced before Jake McGee struck out two in a perfect ninth to notch his 12th save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Loney's two-run single extended his streak of reaching base to 17 games. ... Reynolds homered for the fourth time in five games after going deep only once in his previous 37 contests. ... 3B Nick Delmonico, who plays for Milwaukee's Class A affiliate at Brevard County, was suspended 50 games after testing positive for an amphetamine.
