Brewers 9, Mets 1: Ryan Braun, Khris Davis and Jonathan Lucroy each homered as host Milwaukee routed New York for its fourth straight victory.
Matt Garza (7-7) allowed one run and two hits over eight innings as the Brewers won for the sixth time in eight games to take possession of the National League’s best record at 58-45. The Mets dropped to 3-4 on their 10-game road trip.
Davis reached base three times on two hits and a walk while scoring twice for Milwaukee. Carlos Gomez recorded two hits and two runs while Lucroy also produced two hits for the Brewers, who have slugged nine homers over their last three games.
Lucroy hit a solo blast in the first inning and Milwaukee added four runs in the second off Dillon Gee (4-3), who gave up six runs and six hits in five innings. Jean Segura hit a two-run triple into the right-center field gap before Gomez and Lucroy delivered run-scoring singles to make it 5-0.
Davis added a run-scoring double in the third and smacked a leadoff homer in the sixth to make it a seven-run advantage. Lucas Duda got New York on the board with a seventh-inning homer before Braun smashed a two-run shot in the bottom of the frame.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Mets RF Curtis Granderson was hitless in four at-bats in his return after missing two games with a stomach illness. … Milwaukee 2B Scooter Gennett (quadriceps) missed his second consecutive contest. … Mets SS Ruben Tejada was held out of the lineup as a precaution one day after being beaned in the head. New York recalled SS Wilmer Flores – who went 1-for-3 on Thursday – from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis to the same club.
