Angels 8, Twins 6: Mike Trout belted a two-run homer while Josh Hamilton and Howie Kendrick added two hits and two RBIs apiece as host Los Angeles remained perfect on its six-game homestand.
Kole Calhoun scored two runs and drove in another while Trout also crossed the plate twice for the Angels, who have won four straight at home following a 2-4 road trip. C.J. Wilson (8-6) improved to 6-0 in his last seven home starts despite surrendering six runs and nine hits over five innings and Joe Smith worked the ninth for his sixth save.
Former Angel Kendrys Morales homered and drove in two runs while Josh Willingham also went deep for the Twins, who had their four-game winning streak snapped. Brian Dozier went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Kyle Gibson (6-6) yielded seven runs on four hits and two walks in two frames.
Los Angeles erupted for five runs in the first inning, with Hamilton and Kendrick each delivering a two-run single. Minnesota answered quickly with a five-run rally in the second that was ignited by back-to-back homers by Willingham and Morales to start the frame.
The Angels got the lead right back as Calhoun hit a one-out single in the bottom half and Trout followed with his team-leading 17th blast. The Twins cut their deficit to one in the fifth on Morales' sacrifice fly, but Calhoun added one of his own in the eighth to provide breathing room.
