Athletics 11, Angels 3: Yoenis Cespedes saved two runs in the second inning before driving in five while falling a single shy of the cycle as host Oakland rallied to victory.
Kyle Blanks hit a solo home run and former Angel Alberto Callaspo delivered a two-run double for the Athletics, who have won the first two contests of the three-game series after dropping six of eight. Craig Gentry had two hits and an RBI while Fernando Rodriguez (1-0) notched the win with a scoreless inning in relief of Tommy Milone, who yielded three runs and nine hits in six frames.
Collin Cowgill went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer for the Angels, who have allowed 20 runs over the first two games of the series. Tyler Skaggs (4-3) was tagged for four runs on five hits and five walks in six-plus innings.
Milone escaped a pair of major jams early, recording three straight outs after loading the bases in the first inning before receiving help from his left fielder in the second. Los Angeles began the frame with three singles, but Chris Iannetta was thrown out at the plate on the third one by Cespedes, who also gunned down Kole Calhoun at home on Grant Green's base hit two batters later.
The Angels finally got to Milone in the fourth as Cowgill opened the scoring with his third homer of the season, but Oakland got on the board in the bottom half, when Cespedes produced the team's first hit with a one-out double and Derek Norris followed with a sacrifice fly that plated Josh Donaldson. The Athletics staged a six-run rally in the seventh that was highlighted by Cespedes' two-run triple, and the Cuban launched a three-run blast an inning later to cap a four-run uprising.
