Cardinals 8, Rockies 0: Matt Adams homered twice and drove in a career-high six runs while Lance Lynn tossed eight superb innings as St. Louis routed host Colorado in the opener of their three-game series.
Adams hit a two-run single in the third, a solo homer in the fifth and a three-run blast in the seventh as the Cardinals won their third straight game. Matt Holliday and Jhonny Peralta drove in one run apiece for St. Louis, which handed Colorado its seventh straight loss.
Lynn (8-5) allowed just three hits and struck out seven without issuing a walk. He was removed three outs shy of recording his second career complete game as Randy Choate retired two batters in the ninth before Jason Motte struck out Troy Tulowitzki to complete the Cardinals’ 15th shutout of the season.
Holliday doubled off the top of the right-field wall in the third to plate the game's first run and Adams delivered a two-run ground single later in the inning. Peralta stroked an RBI double to center in the fourth against Jhoulys Chacin (1-6) to make it 4-0 and Adams lined a homer to right in the following inning.
Adams slugged a mammoth blast to right-center field off Franklin Morales in the seventh to make it an eight-run advantage. The first baseman was homerless in 102 road at-bats this season entering the contest.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Chacin allowed five runs and four hits in six innings. … Adams is the first St. Louis player with six RBIs in game since David Freese also had six against Houston on June 7, 2012. … The Rockies have allowed 54 runs during their seven-game skid.
