White Sox 7, Royals 6: Adam Dunn and Tyler Flowers homered while Andre Rienzo worked six solid innings to help visiting Chicago take its second straight from Kansas City.
Gordon Beckham collected three hits - including an RBI single - and scored twice, Conor Gillaspie also had three hits and two runs scored and Dayan Viciedo added a run-scoring single for the White Sox, who clinched a series win after dropping the last three. Rienzo (4-0) struck out eight while allowing two runs on five hits as Chicago won for the seventh straight time with the right-hander on the mound.
Danny Valencia doubled in two runs for the Royals, but right-hander Yordano Ventura (2-4) could not hold the lead. The 22-year-old was charged with four runs on seven hits over six innings en route to his third straight loss.
Viciedo followed Gillaspie’s triple in the first inning with a single to give Chicago a quick lead before Valencia sent a one-out double into the gap in right-center in the second to put Kansas City on top. Flowers’ solo shot to left in the fifth tied it up and Beckham added an RBI single before capping the three-run rally by scoring on a wild pitch.
Dunn, who got the start at first base with Jose Abreu (ankle) on the disabled list, provided some insurance in the eighth that turned out to be valuable with a three-run blast to center off Aaron Crow. The Royals pushed across three in the bottom of the frame and added another in the ninth on Alex Gordon’s RBI single before Ronald Belisario struck out Lorenzo Cain with the tying run on second to lock up his first save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Royals have scored a total of four runs in Ventura’s last three outings. … Chicago LHP Chris Sale (flexor strain) threw a bullpen session before the game and could return as soon as this weekend. … The White Sox placed closer Matt Lindstrom (ankle) on the 15-day disabled list and purchased the contract of RHP Javy Guerra from Triple-A Charlotte.
