Marlins 4, Twins 2: Derek Dietrich homered and fellow rookie Marcell Ozuna drove in a pair of runs as host Miami won for the fourth time in the last five games.
A.J. Ramos (2-2) tossed two scoreless innings in relief of starter Jose Fernandez for the Marlins, who are 13-9 over their last 22 contests. Mike Dunn and Chad Qualls combined to allow an unearned run in the eighth inning and bridged the gap to Steve Cishek, who struck out a pair during a perfect ninth for his 13th save.
Josh Willingham, who spent the first five seasons of his major-league career with the Marlins, recorded an RBI single in the third inning while Trevor Plouffe plated Joe Mauer with a single in the eighth. Kevin Correia (6-5) yielded two runs on five hits and two walks over six frames.
The Twins got on the board first with Willingham’s liner up the middle to score Clete Thomas, but Miami loaded the bases in the sixth and got the run back on Ozuna’s single to center. The hard-hit grounder bounced off the heel of Thomas’ glove, allowing Giancarlo Stanton to score on the play.
Dietrich stretched the margin to 3-1 in the seventh with his solo shot into the Marlins’ bullpen in right off reliever Brian Duensing. Ozuna answered Plouffe’s RBI single with a run-scoring double in the bottom half of the eighth to restore Miami’s two-run lead.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Correia had walked one only batter over his last three outings, a span of 18 innings. … The Marlins ended their seven-game losing streak in interleague play, with their last such win coming on the back end of a doubleheader against the Twins on April 23. … Ozuna is 4-for-5 and has driven in six runs with the bases loaded in his rookie season.
