Giants 3, Dodgers 0: Madison Bumgarner allowed two hits over eight innings and drove in a key run as visiting San Francisco evened its season-opening series with Los Angeles.

Bumgarner (1-0) retired 18 straight batters during one stretch, struck out six and didn’t walk a batter. Sergio Romo worked a perfect ninth to earn his first save for the Giants.

Bumgarner’s bat played a role in the two-run seventh inning that gave the Giants a 3-0 lead. After Joaquin Arias reached on a throwing error by shortstop Justin Sellers and Andres Torres singled to right, Bumgarner’s one-out grounder scored Arias and Torres followed him across the plate when Sellers threw the ball away coming home.

Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed one earned run on 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings while striking out five and walking none in his major-league debut for the Dodgers. The South Korean gave up back-to-back singles to open the first and second innings but induced double-play groundouts to escape the jams.

The Giants strung together three straight hits in the fourth inning to score their first run of the season. Arias drove in Buster Posey with a single to center to give San Francisco a 1-0 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: After getting two hits in the season opener Monday against the Giants, Dodgers left fielder Carl Crawford did not start, as manager Don Mattingly said before the game he plans to ease Crawford back into the lineup. Crawford pinch hit for Jerry Hairston, Jr. in the ninth and popped out to first. … Counting his last start in Game 1 of the World Series last fall, Bumgarner has not allowed a run in his last 15 innings. … Bumgarner came in with a 4.07 ERA in April, his highest in any month of his career.
