Dodgers 5, Braves 0: Zack Greinke tossed seven superb innings and Cuban phenom Yasiel Puig hit his first career grand slam as host Los Angeles took the opener of the four-game series.
Skip Schumaker also plated a run for the Dodgers, who improved to 3-1 on their 10-game homestand.
With Los Angeles clinging to a 1-0 lead and the bases loaded in the eighth inning, Puig launched the first pitch he saw from Cory Gearrin into the right-field stands. It was the third home run in four major-league games for the 22-year-old, who is 7-for-16 with nine RBIs since being recalled from the minors.
Greinke (3-1) scattered four hits and walked three while striking out seven en route to his first win in four starts. Kenley Jansen and Matt Guerrier each worked an inning to complete the shutout.
Tim Hudson (4-5) was the hard-luck loser after yielding just one run and four hits over seven frames. Jason Heyward recorded two hits for the Braves, who had their five-game winning streak snapped.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Scott Van Slyke led off with a single, advanced on Andre Ethier's double and scored on a groundout by Schumaker. ... Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez, who is 1-for-7 since returning from a hamstring injury, drew a walk as a pinch-hitter in the eighth and scored on Puig's blast. ... Atlanta will visit San Diego following this series before returning home for an eight-game homestand.
