Mets 2, Giants 1: Jonathon Niese scattered three hits over seven solid innings and Ruben Tejada collected three hits - including a homer to lead off the game - as visiting New York benefited from nine walks to top San Francisco.
David Wright also had three hits and Josh Thole scored on Jordany Valdespin's fielder's choice in the second inning for the Mets, who posted only their fifth win in 20 games.
Niese (8-5) was the primary reason why National League West-leading San Francisco fell for the sixth time in seven outings. After walking two of his first three batters, the left-hander settled down and handcuffed the Giants. Niese's lone blemish came in the sixth inning on Buster Posey's two-out homer.
Two relievers bridged the gap to Bobby Parnell, who retired the side in order in the ninth inning for his fourth save.
After his costly throwing error allowed two runs score in Tuesday's 4-1 setback, Tejada quickly made amends by depositing the second pitch he saw from Matt Cain (10-4) over the wall in left field for his first homer since Sept. 5, 2010.
Valdespin's hot shot down the line in the second inning gave Giants third baseman Marco Scutaro only one option - to tag the bag as Thole scored.
New York nearly extended its lead in the eighth inning, but Thole was ruled out of the basepath as Posey's throw to first hit him in the helmet. Thole was ruled out on runner interference. Tejada grounded out to end the threat.
