Yuniesky Betancourt drove in five runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Kansas City Royals rallied for a 6-5 walkoff victory over the Chicago White Sox in the first game of a doubleheader.

Betancourt tied the game with his third grand slam of the season and Wilson Betemit also homered for the Royals, who have won four of their last five contests.

White Sox reliever Chris Sale (0-1) opened the 11th by walking Betemit, who advanced on a sacrifice. Chicago closer Bobby Jenks came in to strike out Willie Bloomquist. Mike Aviles reached on an infield single before Betancourt grounded an 0-1 offering up the middle, plating Betemit with the winning run.

Jesse Chavez (5-3) picked up the win after tossing two scoreless innings.

Chicago took a 2-0 lead on RBI singles by Omar Vizquel in the fourth and Juan Pierre an inning later. Betemit got the Royals on the board with a leadoff homer - his seventh - in the bottom of the fifth, but Gordon Beckham capped a two-out, three-run rally in the sixth with a two-run single, giving the White Sox a 5-1 edge.

Kansas City staged a two-out uprising of its own in the seventh to forge a tie.

With one on, Freddy Garcia yielded singles by Bloomquist and Aviles which loaded the bases. Sergio Santos relieved Garcia and grooved a 1-0 pitch that Betancourt deposited over the left-field wall for his fourth career grand slam, knotting the contest at 5-5.

Vizquel went 3-for-4 for the White Sox, who have lost 10 of their last 14.
