Cal Quantrill pitched into the seventh inning and Ezequiel Tovar homered as the visiting Colorado Rockies stretched their winning streak to six games with a 6-3 victory over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.

Quantrill (3-3) scattered six hits over six-plus innings, allowing one run and three walks while fanning five. He recorded just one 1-2-3 inning but leaned on a defense that turned three double plays.

Jurickson Profar walked to open the seventh, ending Quantrill's night.

Dylan Cease (5-3) gave up five hits and three runs over 5 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out eight. He allowed more than three hits for just the second time in his past seven starts.

Cease trailed just 1-0 going into the sixth after the Rockies' Ryan McMahon led off the fourth with his sixth homer of the year. But Colorado went on to knock Cease out of the game with a two-out RBI single by Brendan Rodgers, then established a cushion against rookie reliever Stephen Kolek.

The bottom third of the Rockies' order -- Jake Cave, Elehuris Montero and Jordan Beck -- each knocked in runs with singles for a 5-0 advantage.

Tovar increased the lead to 6-0 when he lined Kolek's first pitch of the seventh inning into the left field seats for his fifth homer of the season.

San Diego made things interesting with three runs in the home half of the seventh. Luis Campusano and Luis Arraez produced RBI singles, and Campusano ended up coming home on a wild pitch by reliever Victor Vodnik to make it 6-3.

But the Colorado bullpen nailed it down from there, with Tyler Kinley working a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his first save of 2024.

Tovar, McMahon and Montero each collected two hits for the Rockies, who own their longest winning streak since 2019. Arraez, Campusano and Fernando Tatis Jr. had two hits apiece for the Padres. San Diego has dropped three of its past four.
