Jared Walsh drove in three runs on three hits Saturday night as the host Los Angeles Angels salvaged a split of their two-game interleague series against the San Diego Padres with a 10-2 shellacking.
Brandon Marsh continued his hot hitting with another three-hit game for the Angels, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Manny Machado had a single and a double for the Padres, who failed to gain ground on the Cincinnati Reds in the National League wild-card race. San Diego remained two games behind with its ninth loss in 11 games.
The Angels never trailed, taking the lead for good on Walsh's 24th homer of the season, a solo shot, in the second inning.
Jack Mayfield added a two-run shot, his eighth, off Padres starter Ryan Weathers (4-7) in the third, and the Angels gradually pulled away with two more in the fourth and fifth, and three in the sixth.
Walsh's double scored Jo Adell in the fourth, before his single plated Shohei Ohtani with the game's final run in the sixth.
Walsh batted only four times in the game. He was denied a shot at the Angels' first cycle since Ohtani in 2019 when he was intentionally walked in the fifth.
The three-hit game was the 10th of his three-year career.
Marsh's three-hit game, which consisted of a double and two singles, was his fifth of the season and fourth in his last nine games. The rookie's average has gone from .216 to .279 over that stretch.
Phil Gosselin had two RBIs, while Mayfield and David Fletcher collected two hits apiece for the Angels, who will complete the four-game season series against their Southern California rival Sept. 7-8 in San Diego.
Ohtani scored twice for the Angels, as did Walsh and Mayfield.
Andrew Wantz (1-0), who threw 1 1/3 innings of scoreless middle-inning relief after replacing starter Jose Suarez in the fourth, was credited with the win, the first of his career.
Aaron Nola joined Machado with two hits for the Padres, who won the opener of the rare Friday/Saturday series 5-0.
