Rougned Odor highlighted a six-run sixth inning with a grand slam and the Texas Rangers recorded a 9-4 victory over the visiting New York Yankees Saturday night in the penultimate game at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas.
Texas (77-84) rolled to its third win in the last 13 games by sending 11 men to the plate against Luis Cessa and Nestor Cortes Jr. in the sixth.
The Rangers turned the game into a blowout when Odor hammered a 2-1 fastball over the center field fence. Odor reached 30 homers for the third time and hit his fifth career grand slam.
Odor also had a two-run double in the first off Luis Severino (1-1) and set a career high with six RBIs.
Before Odor homered, Jose Trevino hit an RBI double in the fourth and Willie Calhoun drew a bases-loaded walk for the first run in the sixth. After Odor's homer, Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit an RBI single to make it 9-1.
Aaron Judge tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brett Gardner in the top of the first as the Yankees did not homer for only the 23rd time this season. Didi Gregorius added a bases-loaded double with two outs in the ninth to score three.
New York (103-58) lost for the third time in four games and fell to 8-15 when going homerless.
The Yankees will also finish with the third-best record in the majors and will not have home-field advantage if they play the 105-win Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.
New York will also enter its final game with 305 homers, one more than Minnesota for the major league lead.
Luke Farrell became the 19th different starting pitcher used by the Rangers and allowed a run on one hit in two innings. Five relievers followed Farrell as Jonathan Hernandez (2-1) was credited with the win and Jose Leclerc retired Gio Urshela to end it after giving up Gregorius' double.
In his third start since coming off the injured list to make his season debut on Sept. 17, Severino allowed two runs on one hit in three innings. He struck out four, walked four, allowed five stolen bases and threw 33 of his 72 pitches in the opening inning.
