J.T. Realmuto homered, doubled and had two RBIs to lift the host Philadelphia Phillies past the Chicago Cubs 4-2 on Tuesday.
Jean Segura and Roman Quinn added two hits each for the Phillies, who played their first game since hitting coach John Mallee was fired and replaced with former manager Charlie Manuel. Manuel is expected to join the team in time for Wednesday night's game.
The Phillies managed nine hits despite striking out 15 times.
Phillies starter Jason Vargas was effective in six innings, giving up five hits and two runs. Vargas walked three and struck out one.
Blake Parker (2-2) earned the win in relief.
Hector Neris picked up his 21st save in 25 opportunities with a scoreless ninth inning despite hitting one batter and walking another.
Nicholas Castellanos homered among his two hits for the Cubs.
Cubs starter Jose Quintana was stellar through six innings as he allowed five hits and two runs, one earned. Quintana recorded a career-best 14 strikeouts and reached at least 10 strikeouts for the 14th time in his career. Quintana tossed 110 pitches, 72 for strikes.
Cubs reliever Kyle Ryan (3-2) took the loss.
The game was scoreless through the first two innings and the Phillies left four runners on base.
Philadelphia struck first in the third inning when Scott Kingery hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Realmuto for a 1-0 lead.
The Cubs tied the game at 1 in the fourth when Javier Baez knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to left.
Realmuto put the Phillies ahead 2-1 in the fifth with an opposite-field solo homer. It was his 16th home run of the season.
Chicago tied the game at 2 in the sixth when Castellanos led off with a homer to left off Vargas.
In the seventh, Realmuto doubled down the left field line to score Andrew Knapp from first base for a 3-2 advantage.
The Phillies pulled ahead 4-2 in the eighth when Quinn tripled to the gap in right center to score Sean Rodriguez from first. Quinn's triple was his first since last September.
