SAN FRANCISCO -- Yoenis Cespedes belted two home runs Sunday, powering the New York Mets out of their losing streak and to a 9-5 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

Bartolo Colon took over the major-league lead among active pitchers in career road wins with 6 1/3 strong innings, helping the Mets snap a three-game losing streak.

In his second game since returning from the disabled list, Cespedes hit solo homer off Giants starter Matt Moore in the third inning and another off reliever Jake Peavy in the seventh, highlighting a 13-hit Mets attack.

Alejandro De Aza added a three-run homer off Peavy in a four-run sixth inning after the Giants closed to within 3-2 against Colon (11-7).

The 43-year-old Colon was pulled one out into the seventh inning, having allowed two runs on nine hits. He walked one and struck out five.

The win was his 119th on the road, breaking a tie with New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia.

Colon is 7-4 on the road this season.

The win at AT&T Park was the third of his career in five starts, but his first as a Met. His previous two successes had come for the Montreal Expos in 2002 and Oakland Athletics in 2012.

Cespedes' two-homer game was his first of the season. The most recent of his eight multi-homer games came when he hit three against the Colorado Rockies last Aug. 21.

Cespedes also had an RBI double in the first inning, scoring Jose Reyes, who had led off the game with a double. Cespedes finished with three hits and three RBIs.

He flied out to the warning track in left field in the ninth inning.

Reyes scored a run in the third inning after a walk, a wild pitch and his fifth stolen base of the season. Asdrubal Cabrera produced the run with a sacrifice fly.

Cespedes followed with his first homer.

Moore pitched five innings, allowing five hits and three runs. He walked three and struck out three.

Up 3-2, the Mets broke the game open against Peavy in the sixth. Neil Walker and Travis d'Arnaud singled, after which Justin Ruggiano singled home Walker.

De Aza, a former Giant, then took Peavy's pitch over the 25-foot-high wall in right field for his fourth homer of the season and a 7-2 lead.

Cespedes' second homer made it 8-2 an inning later.

The Giants, who had 10-7 and 8-1 wins in the first two games of the series, made a late run with a three-run eighth inning against the New York bullpen to close within 8-5.

Eduardo Nunez had the only hit of the inning, a two-run double.

The Mets tacked on an insurance run in the ninth on an RBI single by Wilmer Flores that scored Neil Walker, who had doubles.

Walker had two hits in his first start since sitting out four games because of a sore lower back.

Cabrera and Ruggiano also two hits for the Mets, who lost the first two games of the series and four of five to begin their 10-game trip.

The Mets out-hit the Giants 13-11.

Denard Span accounted for one of the Giants' five runs with a solo homer in the third. The ball landed in San Francisco Bay, the 71st "Splash Hit" by a Giant in the 17-year history of AT&T Park and the second of Span's career.

Span also had a double, Joe Panik tripled and Hunter Pence had a two singles for the Giants, who were seeking their first three-game winning streak in more than a month.

Angel Pagan bunted for a hit in his first at-bat, extending his hitting streak to 17 games, the best in baseball. But the veteran left the game three innings later because of tightness in his right groin.

His status for the finale of the four-game series Sunday is unknown.
