Yankees 7, Blue Jays 3: Brian McCann slugged a two-run homer and added a three-run triple as New York extended its home winning streak against Toronto to 15 games.
Brett Gardner went 4-for-5 and scored twice while Alfonso Soriano recorded an RBI single as the Yankees won for the sixth time in eight games overall. Chase Whitley (3-0) picked up the win after allowing two runs in five innings and four relievers helped limit the Blue Jays to no more than three runs for the ninth time in their last 12 contests.
Toronto, which last won in Yankee Stadium on Aug. 29, 2012, received RBI singles from Dioner Navarro and Colby Rasmus and a run-scoring double from Jose Bautista. Mark Buehrle (10-4) suffered his third straight loss and fell to 1-11 lifetime versus New York despite allowing only two earned runs in six innings.
Carlos Beltran led off the bottom of the fourth with a base hit and McCann followed with his first home run since May 23 to put the Yankees up 2-1. Three singles and a bases-loaded walk to pinch hitter Ichiro Suzuki in the seventh made it 3-1 and McCann then ripped a triple - the third of his career - past a diving Rasmus in center field to clear the bases.
Bautista's RBI double with none out in the eighth pulled Toronto within 7-3 and brought in Dellin Betances, who got the next three outs to end the threat. Closer David Robertson worked the ninth in a non-save situation as New York improved to 40-20 in the all-time series since the start of 2011.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Blue Jays optioned OF Anthony Gose to Triple-A Buffalo to make room on the roster for Rasmus, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list. ... Toronto 3B Brett Lawrie was hit by a pitch on the left hand in the fourth and was replaced an inning later. ... McCann's five RBIs tie a career high. He is the first Yankees catcher with a home run, a triple and five RBIs in a game since Elston Howard on Aug. 19, 1962.
