Marlins 2, Phillies 0: Henderson Alvarez scattered five hits over 7 2/3 innings to outduel Cole Hamels as Miami blanked visiting Philadelphia.

Alvarez (12-6) struck out two and walked one before Mike Dunn finished off the eighth and Steve Cishek worked out of trouble in the ninth for his 38th save. Ed Lucas singled in a run, Christian Yelich doubled among two hits and Casey McGehee delivered a sacrifice fly for the Marlins, who ensured themselves a winning home record at 41-38.

Hamels (9-8) allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over seven innings and recorded the Phillies’ lone extra-base hit with a double in the fifth. Philadelphia totaled seven singles in falling for the seventh time in nine games.

Miami broke through in the fourth inning when Jeff Baker singled with one out and moved to second on Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s single. Lucas followed and sent a single to center to score Baker, and Hamels walked a batter to load the bases before getting Alvarez to pop out and end the threat.

Yelich led off the fifth with a double and moved up on a sacrifice bunt before scoring on McGehee’s fly to right. Marlon Byrd and Domonic Brown led off the ninth with back-to-back singles for the Phillies, but Cody Asche flied out, Grady Sizemore grounded into a fielder’s choice and Darin Ruf struck out to end the game.
