Blue Jays 10, Diamondbacks 4: Rajai Davis and Moises Sierra hit two-run home runs and Edwin Encarnacion went 3-for-3 with a solo blast as visiting Toronto won for the seventh time in nine games.
Brett Lawrie recorded two RBIs and Jose Reyes added a run-scoring single among three hits for the Blue Jays, who clinched their third straight series win. Todd Redmond (3-2) allowed three runs on four hits in five innings to earn his second straight win.
Didi Gregorius hit a two-run blast and Miguel Montero homered, but Wade Miley (9-10) was lit up for five runs on eight hits in 1 2/3 innings as the Diamondbacks suffered their third straight loss. Arizona slipped eight games behind the Cincinnati Reds for the second wild-card spot in the National League.
Lawrie singled in a run in the first and Toronto broke it open with a four-run second. Reyes’ RBI single pushed across the first run and Davis followed with a blast to left-center before Lawrie tacked on another run to cap the uprising.
Adam Eaton got Arizona on the board with a solo homer in the fourth and Montero’s blast cut the deficit to 6-4 in the seventh. Encarnacion hit his 36th home run in the eighth and Adam Lind and Sierra each homered in the ninth to put it away.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Arizona recalled C Tuffy Gosewisch and 3B Matt Davidson and selected the contract of top prospect SS Chris Owings from Triple-A Reno. Owings was named MVP of the Pacific Coast League. … Miley’s outing marked the shortest start of his career. … Toronto’s 10-run outburst marked the first double-digit scoring total since a 12-6 win over Houston on July 26.
