Yoan Moncada smacked a three-run home run, Jose Abreu hit a two-run shot, and Ryan Goins and James McCann added back-to-back solo homers to support a complete-game four-hitter from Ivan Nova and lead the host Chicago White Sox past the Miami Marlins 9-1 on Monday night.
Chicago opened a season-high, 10-game homestand with a 10-hit attack that fueled the team's third win in four games. It was more than enough offense for Nova, who delivered his first complete game since April 29, 2017, when he shut out the Marlins as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Nova entered the game with sterling career numbers against Miami -- 4-0 with a 0.98 ERA in four starts. He maintained the trend Monday after hitting Marlins leadoff man Curtis Granderson to start the game, limiting Miami to four hits and one run with zero walks and five strikeouts.
Abreu ignited the offense with a run-scoring double in the first inning, and he scored on Moncada's RBI single one batter later. That duo, along with Jon Jay and Goins, had two hits apiece.
The White Sox began their homer barrage when Abreu connected against Miami right-hander Trevor Richards (3-12) with one out in the third for his club-leading 22nd round-tripper of the season.
Moncada homered against Richards in the fifth to provide valuable insurance and establish a career high with his 18th home run. One inning later, the White Sox connected for back-to-back home runs for the fifth time this season, when Goins and McCann went deep against reliever Jose Quijada.
Nova (5-9) won his second successive home start after beginning the season with zero victories in his first seven starts at Guaranteed Rate Field. Miami scored its lone run against the veteran right-hander in the second inning, as catcher Jorge Alfaro connected for a solo home run with two out.
Alfaro's homer was the Marlins' lone extra-base hit. Nova retired nine in a row after that and needed 112 pitches in the complete game. Neil Walker lined into a double play to end it.
Richards spaced seven runs on seven hits in five innings with one walk and seven strikeouts.
