Robinson Cano hit a tie-breaking two-run homer with one out in the eighth inning and the visiting New York Mets earned a 4-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Saturday night.

Cano snapped a 2-2 deadlock with an impressive drive off Nick Anderson (2-4) that scored Dom Smith.

The drive, on a 1-1 down and in slider, went into the second deck beyond the right field fence.

It was the veteran second baseman's fifth homer but first with a runner on base and first homer in 72 at-bats since connecting off Atlanta's Mike Soroka on June 17.

It also marked the third time Cano drove in more than one run and first instance since April 15 at Philadelphia.

Noah Syndergaard (7-4) allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings and improved to 7-1 lifetime against the Marlins. He struck out nine, did not issue a walk for the third time, won his fourth straight decision and finished it by retiring the last 11 batters he faced.

Seth Lugo struck out two in a scoreless eighth and Edwin Diaz allowed a hit in a scoreless ninth to record his 20th save in 24 chances.

Michael Conforto also hit a two-run homer for the Mets, who halted a four-game losing streak to the Marlins. The Mets won for just the third time in their last 13 road games and snapped a six-game road losing streak.

Rookie Harold Ramirez hit an RBI double and Jorge Alfaro produced a run-scoring triple for the Marlins, who lost for the 10th time in 14 games.

Miami rookie Zac Gallen allowed two runs on four hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked five in his fourth career start.

Conforto's 17th homer, a shot off the right-field foul pole, gave the Mets a 2-0 lead with one out in the third but the lead was short-lived.

Following a throwing error by Syndergaard on a pickoff at first in the fourth, Neil Walker scored on Ramirez's double to left field to make it 2-1 and the Marlins tied the game three pitches later on Alfaro's third career triple to right field.
