CLEVELAND -- As homecomings go, this one couldn't have been better for Asdrubal Cabrera.

Playing against his former teammates, Cabrera had two hits, including a home run to help the Tampa Bay Rays to a 4-1 win over the Cleveland Indians on Friday night at Progressive Field.

Cabrera, Joey Butler and Steven Souza all hit solo home runs to lead streaking Tampa Bay to another victory. The Rays, who lead the American League East, have won seven of their last eight games and 15 of their last 20. They are 13-5 in June.

Right-hander Nathan Karns (4-3) pitched into the sixth inning for the win. Karns held Cleveland to one run, one walk and six hits with four strikeouts.

Right-hander Brad Boxberger pitched the ninth to pick up his 17th save.

Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco (8-6) held Tampa Bay to three runs in 6 2/3 innings but took the loss.

"A great win for us and I was happy to see (Cabrera) come back here, where he played for so many years, and do well," said Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash, for whom the game was also a homecoming of sorts.

Cash spent the past two years as the Indians' bullpen coach under manager Terry Francona.

Cabrera played for the Indians from 2007 until he was traded at midseason last year. He homered in the second inning and added a single during a Tampa Bay rally in the seventh.

"The home run was very special," Cabrera said. "I played here for eight years, so I was a little nervous before the game. It felt kind of weird being in the other clubhouse."

Leading 2-1, the Rays scored an insurance run and knocked Carrasco out of the game in the seventh. Second baseman Logan Forsythe led off the inning with a single, but when he tried to stretch the single into a double, he was thrown out at second by left fielder Michael Brantley.

Souza reached on an infield single and went to third on a single by Cabrera. A sacrifice fly by second baseman Jake Elmore scored Souza to give the Rays a 3-1 lead.

Tampa Bay added another run in the ninth on a home run by Souza over the left field wall against right-hander Scott Atchison.

The Rays hit home runs in each of the first two innings off Carrasco to take an early lead. With one out in the first, Butler belted his sixth home run of the season to give Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead.

Cleveland tied it with a run in the bottom of the first off Karns. Second baseman Jason Kipnis led off with a double to left, went to third on a bunt single by shortstop Francisco Lindor and scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

"He was a little out of sync early, but he slowed the game down and made pitches after that," Cash said of Karns.

In the second inning, Cabrera's home run, his fourth of the season, gave the Rays a 2-1 lead.

"Hopefully, that meant a lot to Cabby because it meant a lot to us," Cash said. "We all know this is a special place for him."

Cleveland struggled offensively, especially with runners in scoring position.

In the sixth, the Indians had runners at first and second with no outs, but Karns struck out first baseman Carlos Santana before left-hander Xavier Cedeno, in relief of Karns, struck out pinch-hitter Ryan Raburn and right fielder Brandon Moss to end that threat.

Cleveland was 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

"It seemed like lots of times we get guys on first and second with no outs and that's the way the inning ends," Francona said.

NOTES: Indians manager Terry Francona announced that RHP Cody Anderson will be recalled from Triple-A Columbus to start Sunday against Tampa Bay. Anderson will assume the spot in the rotation previously held by RHP Shaun Marcum, who was designated for assignment on Thursday. ... The Indians signed LHP Brady Aiken, their first-round pick in the June draft. Aiken is recovering from elbow reconstruction surgery in March and will not pitch this season. ... RHP Nathan Karns started Friday night for Tampa Bay. It was the 30th start by a Rays rookie pitcher this season, the most in the majors.
