Reds 4, Brewers 3: Drew Stubbs hit the go-ahead home run in the bottom of the eighth inning as host Cincinnati edged Milwaukee for the second straight night.
After watching Bronson Arroyo's no-hit bid go down in flames in a three-run eighth inning, Stubbs emerged the hero with a leadoff blast to straightaway center field off Brewers closer John Axford (1-5).
Sean Marshall (2-3) worked a third of an inning to earn the victory while Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in the ninth for his ninth save, celebrating it with a pair of somersaults.
After hitting Ryan Braun with a pitch in the top of the first inning, Arroyo set down the next 20 Milwaukee batters he faced before issuing a one-out walk to George Kottaras in the eighth. Taylor Green was next and he laced a double to right field to end the no-hit bid.
Corey Hart followed with a two-run double to center and Norichika Aoki slapped a two-out single to shallow left field to tie the game. That spelled the end for Arroyo, who is just 1-4 in his last nine starts.
Jay Bruce opened the scoring in the bottom of the sixth, drilling a first-pitch fastball from Marco Estrada over the fence in right-center field with Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips aboard. It was the 17th home run of the season for Bruce, who is 4-for-11 with three homers and seven RBIs against Estrada.
That was the only mistake made by the Brewers right-hander, who limited Cincinnati to five hits over six strong innings while striking out a career-high 12.
GAME NOTEBOOK: There have already been three no-hitters thrown this season, equaling the total from all of 2011. ... Estrada (quad) was making his first appearance since being activated from the 15-day disabled list. He was expected to be on a strict count but wound up throwing 95 pitches, 62 of those for strikes. ... Chapman's save marked just his third scoreless outing in his last eight appearances.
