Rays 10, Angels 3: Evan Longoria and Logan Forsythe both homered, drove in two runs and scored twice as host Tampa Bay evened the three-game series.
Brandon Guyer recorded two hits and two RBIs, Ben Zobrist went 4-for-5 and plated a run and James Loney collected three hits for the Rays, who posted their 10th win in 13 contests to climb within five games of Toronto for the second wild-card spot in the American League. Desmond Jennings added two hits, an RBI and two runs scored while Chris Archer (7-6) struck out nine while allowing three runs and six hits over six innings.
Howie Kendrick, David Freese and Hank Conger each drove in a run for the Angels, who fell to 2-3 on their eight-game road trip and two games behind first-place Oakland in the AL West. C.J. Wilson (8-7) made his first start since July 9 due to ankle and hip injuries, surrendering six runs on six hits and two walks while recording only four outs.
The Rays struck early as Guyer drew a two-out walk in the first inning and Longoria deposited a 1-1 offering over the wall in left field for his 13th blast of the season. Six straight batters reached with one out in the second as the Rays rallied for four runs to take a seemingly comfortable 6-0 lead.
Loney ignited the outburst with a single and scored on Forsythe's base hit before Jennings plated a run with a bunt single. Zobrist repeated Jennings' feat to load the bases for Guyer, whose two-run single put an early end to Wilson's return, and Forsythe highlighted a four-run eighth with a leadoff homer.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Loney's second-inning single extended his streak of reaching base safely to 21 games. ... Los Angeles LF Josh Hamilton was in the lineup after suffering a bruised finger in Friday's series opener, going 0-for-3 with a walk and three strikeouts. ... The Angels halved their six-run deficit in the fourth as Kendrick and Conger delivered RBI doubles while Freese plated a run with a groundout.
