Mets 3, Rockies 2: Marlon Byrd slugged a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to lift visiting New York to a win in the makeup of an April 17 postponement.
The Mets trailed from the second inning until the eighth, when Daniel Murphy singled with one out against Matt Belisle (4-5). Byrd then smacked the seventh pitch of his encounter with Belisle over the wall in left-center field to make it 3-2.
LaTroy Hawkins (3-1) got the win after throwing a scoreless inning of relief and Bobby Parnell retired the middle of the Colorado order to pick up his 14th save. New York starter Jeremy Hefner allowed two runs (one earned) in six innings and provided an RBI groundout in the fifth to get his team on the board.
Byrd's blast deprived Tyler Chatwood of a win. The right-hander, who has not allowed a home run in 50 2/3 innings this year, yielded one run in six innings to lower his ERA to 2.13.
Michael Cuddyer was 3-for-4 for the Rockies to extend his hitting streak to a franchise-record 24 games, snapping a tie with Dante Bichette's run in 1995. Cuddyer singled and scored in a two-run second, but was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double leading off the ninth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Rockies CF Dexter Fowler missed his second straight game with a sore right wrist. He was scheduled for an MRI exam. ... Mets 3B David Wright received a full day off for the first time this year. ... Colorado signed INF Reid Brignac to a minor league deal. He will report to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Also, LHP Drew Pomeranz is expected to make his season debut Sunday in place of the struggling Juan Nicasio.
