Padres 3, Giants 2: Chris Denorfia delivered the tiebreaking single in the seventh inning as host San Diego defeated San Francisco for the second consecutive night.
Nick Hundley walked and Ronny Cedeno singled to start the seventh against Jake Dunning (0-2). One out later, Denorfia drilled a pitch from Javier Lopez to left field to easily score Hundley from third as the Padres dropped the Giants into the National League West cellar.
Tim Stauffer (3-1) struck out three in 1 2/3 frames and Huston Street worked around a two-out double in the ninth to record his 27th save in 28 opportunities and stretch his scoreless innings streak to 20 1/3 since June 23.
San Diego tallied twice in the fifth as Hundley smashed a run-scoring double off the center-field fence and came home on pitcher Robbie Erlin’s single to center. The Giants tied the contest in the sixth when Pablo Sandoval and Joaquin Arias hit RBI singles.
Giants starter Madison Bumgarner allowed two runs and five hits in six innings as his winless stretch increased to six starts. Erlin gave up two runs and six hits in 5 1/3 frames.
