Mets 5, Phillies 4: Marlon Byrd, rookie Juan Lagares and Daniel Murphy combined for seven hits and drove in a run apiece as New York ended a seven-game home losing streak against Philadelphia.

David Wright added an RBI single for New York, which had been outscored by its National League East rival 53-17 during its dubious slide. Gonzalez Germen (1-1) got New York out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and notched his first career win with 1 2/3 hitless innings of relief after fellow rookie Zack Wheeler was pulled after 106 pitches in 4 2/3 innings.

Cole Hamels (4-12) continued to struggle against the Mets, allowing four runs on seven hits over five frames to fall to 6-12 with a 4.37 ERA in 24 career starts against New York. Chase Utley belted a two-run homer in the ninth and finished with three RBIs while Jimmy Rollins also went deep for the Phillies.

Rollins gave Philadelphia an early lead with his 45th career leadoff homer before Hamels allowed five consecutive batters to reach in the bottom half of the first. Byrd knotted the game with a one-out RBI single, Lagares followed with a run-scoring bloop single and Anthony Recker completed the three-run rally on a groundout.

Utley’s sacrifice fly trimmed the deficit to 3-2 in the fifth, but New York got the run back in the bottom half on Wright’s only hit and increased the margin in the seventh on Murphy’s RBI single. Bobby Parnell – the Mets’ fifth pitcher of the game – gave up Utley's homer during a shaky ninth, but recovered for his 18th save.
