Phillies 3, Twins 2: Ben Revere went 4-for-6 and scored the tiebreaking run in the eighth and Cliff Lee pitched seven solid innings as visiting Philadelphia defeated Minnesota to halt a five-game losing skid.
Lee (8-2) gave up two runs and three hits while winning his sixth straight decision. Mike Adams pitched a flawless eighth and Jonathan Papelbon struck out two in the ninth for his 12th save in 12 opportunities as the Phillies averted a three-game sweep.
Lee allowed just one hit over the first six innings while facing the minimum 18 batters before Minnesota had two hits in the seventh. Justin Morneau delivered a two-out, two-run double that sliced away from the diving Revere in left-center field to give the Twins a 2-1 lead.
Philadelphia responded in the eighth against Jared Burton (0-4) on a double by Kevin Frandsen, a bunt single by Revere and an RBI single to right by Michael Young. Jimmy Rollins followed with a bouncer to Morneau at first and Revere beat the throw home to give the Phillies the lead.
Ryan Howard was 3-for-5 with a run-scoring single in the first as Philadelphia had 16 hits to Minnesota’s three. The four-hit game was the seventh of Revere’s career.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Phillies left 16 runners on base. The Twins stranded one. … Minnesota starter Kevin Correia gave up one run and eight hits in five innings. … Philadelphia had three consecutive two-out singles in the sixth but didn’t score as Twins RF Ryan Doumit threw out Young at the plate on Howard’s single to right.
