Padres 2, Rockies 1: Jedd Gyorko belted a go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning as San Diego edged visiting Colorado to clinch the three-game series.
Tyson Ross allowed three hits in seven scoreless innings, but Luke Gregerson (6-7) ended up with the win despite allowing an unearned run in the eighth to tie it. Gyorko led off the bottom of the frame by belting the first pitch from Matt Belisle (5-6) into the seats in right field, giving the Padres their second dramatic win over the Rockies in as many nights.
Huston Street, who allowed a go-ahead run in the ninth only to have his team storm back and make him a winner on Friday, surrendered a leadoff single but went on to notch his 28th save in 29 opportunities.
Tyler Chatwood, who worked six frames, was reached for the lone run and three of the five hits he allowed in the first inning as Alexi Amarista’s RBI infield single gave San Diego a quick lead.
Gregerson yielded a leadoff single in the eighth and pinch runner Charlie Culberson stole second with two outs. DJ LeMahieu followed with a base hit to left and catcher Nick Hundley dropped Chris Denorfia's throw to the plate, allowing Culberson to score the tying run.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Colorado RF Michael Cuddyer went 1-for-4 to drop his batting average to .328. He is second in the National League to Atlanta’s Chris Johnson (.332) in the batting race. … Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado (thumb) returned to the lineup after sitting out Friday. … Padres CF Cameron Maybin underwent wrist surgery on Friday, and a more serious injury was revealed. Maybin, who already had been ruled out for the rest of the season, should be ready for spring training.
