Rangers 11, Tigers 8: David Murphy swatted a go-ahead three-run home run and had four RBIs as host Texas overcame three homers by Detroit's Miguel Cabrera to take three of four games in the series.
Adrian Beltre had four hits and a two-run double and Lance Berkman and Mitch Moreland each drove in a pair of runs as the Rangers erased a 4-1 deficit with four runs in the fifth, four more in the sixth and two in the seventh to win for the ninth time in 11 games.
Cabrera went 4-for-4 with five RBIs, including a three-run homer and a pair of solo shots for the Tigers, who fell to 4-8 in their last 12 and dropped two games behind division-leading Cleveland in the American League Central. Prince Fielder had a three-run double following an intentional walk to Cabrera.
Robbie Ross (2-0) picked up the win with a scoreless inning of relief and Joe Nathan worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth for his 13th save in as many chances. Jose Ortega (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in the sixth, including Murphy's two-out blast on a 3-2 pitch that gave Texas the lead for good at 8-7.
Cabrera's 441-foot homer in the third and solo blast in the fifth off Rangers lefty Derek Holland made it 4-1, but Beltre capped a four-run fifth with a bloop double down the left-field line off Tigers right-hander Doug Fister.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Cabrera boosted his major league-leading RBI total to 47 and moved into a tie with Moises Alou and Bobby Bonds for 100th on the all-time home run list with 332. ... Fister gave up five runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings, continuing a trend in which Detroit's starters lasted a total of 15 2/3 innings in the four games. Holland also went 4 2/3 and was tagged for four runs on eight hits. ... The Rangers placed 2B Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right intercostal muscle and called up Jurickson Profar from the minors to take his spot.
