Diamondbacks 7, Red Sox 6: Cody Ross burned his former team by belting the go-ahead homer to highlight a four-hit performance as visiting Arizona won the opener of the three-game interleague series.

After Stephen Drew's two-run shot in the sixth inning forged a 6-6 tie, Ross led off the seventh by crushing a 1-0 slider from Pedro Beato (1-1) into the Green Monster seats. Ross helped the Diamondbacks overcome an early 4-2 deficit with an RBI single in the third before his run-scoring double in the fifth off starter Jon Lester gave Arizona a 5-4 advantage.

Paul Goldschmidt belted a two-run homer in the first inning and Martin Prado and Aaron Hill each had two hits and scored twice. Randall Delgado (4-3) labored through six innings to pick up the victory for the Diamondbacks, who won for the second time in six outings to remain 3 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.

David Ortiz crushed a two-run homer for the Red Sox, who fell for just the second time in seven outings but maintained their one-game lead ahead of Tampa Bay in the American League East.

Delgado permitted six runs on as many hits and struck out seven to pick up the win. Three relievers bridged the gap to Brad Ziegler, who worked around a pair of singles in the ninth to secure his sixth save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: After belting 22 homers and driving in 81 runs last season with Boston, Ross embraced free agency and signed a three-year, $26 million contract with the Diamondbacks on Dec. 23. ... Lester yielded six runs on 11 hits in a season-low 4 1/3 innings. ... Red Sox CF Jacoby Ellsbury extended his hitting streak to eight games after leading off the first inning with a triple. Ellsbury's eight triples ties him with Los Angeles Angels OF Mike Trout for the AL lead.
