Dodgers 6, Giants 2: Tony Gwynn Jr. hit a three-run pinch-hit triple to cap a four-run fourth inning as Los Angeles downed visiting San Francisco.
Scott Van Slyke added a run-scoring single as the Dodgers won two of three from the Giants in their initial matchup of the season to increase their National League West lead to five games.
Juan Uribe’s infield single plated the first run in the fourth before Gwynn batted for starter Chad Billingsley with the bases loaded and pulled an 0-2 pitch from Tim Lincecum (2-3) down the right-field line to clear the bases and give the Dodgers a 4-2 lead.
Los Angeles increased the lead to 5-2 in the sixth when A.J. Ellis tripled and scored on the first major league hit by Van Slyke, who was recalled earlier Wednesday.
James Loney added a run-scoring single in the eighth. Jamey Wright (2-2) struck out three during two perfect innings of relief.
San Francisco took a 1-0 lead in the second on Lincecum’s two-out single. The Giants added another run in the third when Melky Cabrera hit a one-out triple and scored on Buster Posey’s single.
Lincecum struck out eight in five innings but was touched up for four runs and eight hits.
Billingsley allowed two runs and 11 baserunners in four innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp struck out three times and was hitless in five at-bats to drop his average to .385. … Lincecum has lasted just five innings in three of his last four starts. … Van Slyke, the son of former three-time All-Star Andy Van Slyke, was recalled when Juan Rivera (hamstring) was placed on the disabled list. … Shortstop Brandon Crawford had two of San Francisco’s nine hits.
