VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Left winger Daniel Sedin scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period as the Vancouver Canucks used a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames to stay alive in their first-round series.

The Flames still lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 with Game 6 to be played Saturday night in Calgary.

Center Nick Bonino also scored for Vancouver, who trailed 1-0 after the first period.

Right winger David Jones scored for Calgary.

Facing elimination, the Canucks outshot the Flames by a two-to-one margin and refused to be intimidated by Calgary's bruising style.

Canuck goaltender Ryan Miller, making his first start of the series, stopped 20 shots.

Calgary goalie Jonas Hiller made 41 saves.

Sedin put Vancouver ahead at 1:47 of the final period. Defenseman Dan Hamhuis took a shot that Hiller stopped, but Sedin was waiting by the crease to shovel the rebound through the goaltender's legs.

Calgary's punishing forecheck allowed the Flames to open the scoring early in the first period.

Vancouver defenseman Alex Edler coughed up the puck after being driven into the boards by Flames' center Matt Stajan. Stajan fed the loose puck over to Jones. Left alone in front of the net, Jones fired a shot over Miller's glove hand to make it 1-0 with 2:40 gone in the game.

The Canucks outshot the Flames 17-8 in the second period and were finally rewarded for their efforts when Bonino tied the game at 13:37 of the second.

Edler made up for his earlier mistake by gaining control of the puck, then passing it to right winger Radim Vrbata. He sent it out from behind the net to Bonino, who was waiting in the faceoff circle. Bonino sent a laser shot over Hiller's glove into the top corner of the net for his first goal of the series.

NOTES: Canucks RW Alex Burrows remains in Calgary after sustaining an upper-body injury during Tuesday's morning skate. He will miss the remainder of the series. ...
