Panthers 3, Maple Leafs 2: Nick Bjugstad scored his team-leading 21st goal during a power play early in the second period to snap a tie as visiting Florida ended its three-game skid (0-2-1).
Jussi Jokinen collected a power-play goal and an assist while Jimmy Hayes also tallied for the Panthers, who moved within two points of idle Boston for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Defenseman Brian Campbell notched two assists and Roberto Luongo finished with 27 saves as Florida defeated Toronto for the fourth straight time.
Tyler Bozak scored a power-play goal and Phil Kessel converted from the doorstep during a man advantage with 50 seconds remaining in the third period for the reeling Maple Leafs, who have dropped four in a row (0-3-1) and 15 of their last 16 (1-13-2). Nazem Kadri recorded two assists and Jonathan Bernier turned aside 14 shots in falling to 0-8-2 in his last 10 outings.
Tomas Fleischmann stickhandled around the net from the right faceoff circle before feeding Bjugstad, who scored from the lower edge of the left circle at 4:42 of the second period to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. Hayes doubled the advantage just over nine minutes later, deflecting Campbell's shot from the point before the puck caromed off Toronto blue-liner Roman Polak and into the net.
Bozak capped a tic-tac-toe passing sequence by converting from the slot 4:03 into the first period to open the scoring. Jokinen answered with 46 seconds left in the session, one-timing Brad Boyes' saucer pass over the glove of Bernier.
