Ducks 3, Avalanche 2: Defensemen Hampus Lindholm and Cam Fowler scored 1:44 apart in the second period to erase a one-goal deficit as Anaheim completed a 3-1-0 road trip.
Corey Perry scored his league-leading 11th goal and captain Ryan Getzlaf notched a pair of assists for the Ducks, who were forced to start their third-string goaltender due to injuries. Jason LaBarbera made his Anaheim debut hours after being recalled from the minors and turned aside 16 shots.
Dennis Everberg netted his first NHL goal and Nathan MacKinnon also tallied for the Avalanche, who had their six-game point streak (2-0-4) snapped as they began a three-game homestand. Semyon Varlamov made his second start in two nights and finished with 30 saves.
Colorado grabbed an early lead as Everberg carried the puck through the neutral zone and banked it off the left-wing boards before chasing it down and firing it past LaBarbera 2:18 into the game. Anaheim drew even when the rebound of Perry's breakaway chance bounced off his right arm and over Varlamov's right shoulder at 7:20, but MacKinnon ripped a shot from the right faceoff circle off the left post and in with one minute remaining in the first period to put the Avalanche back in front.
Lindholm forged the second tie of the night at 6:04 of the second, taking a pass from behind the net by Patrick Maroon and beating Varlamov from the inner edge of the right circle. Fowler gave the Ducks their first lead at 7:48 as he skated to the net from along the left-wing boards and slid a backhander around a fallen Varlamov.
GAME NOTEBOOK: LaBarbera was summoned from Norfolk of the American Hockey League earlier in the day due to G Frederik Andersen's leg tightness. John Gibson was slated to start but suffered a lower-body injury during pregame warmups, leaving goaltending consultant Dwayne Roloson as Anaheim's emergency backup. ... MacKinnon has four goals and an assist over his last three games after notching just four assists in his first 10 contests. ... Colorado's second-ranked penalty kill continued to shut down the opposition, keeping Anaheim scoreless on five power-play opportunities to remain perfect over its last 25 short-handed situations.
