Panthers 5, Penguins 1: Drew Shore scored a pair of goals and Jonathan Huberdeau added one and an assist as Florida emphatically ended Pittsburgh's franchise-record home winning streak at 13 games.
Defenseman Dmitry Kulikov and Shawn Matthias also tallied for the Panthers, who halted a two-game slide during which they scored a total of two goals. Jesse Winchester collected three assists and Scott Clemmensen made 35 saves while also setting up a tally.
Blue-liner Matt Niskanen scored the lone goal for the Penguins, who lost at Consol Energy Center for the first time since Nov. 13 against Philadelphia. Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside 23 shots as Pittsburgh fell in regulation for the first time this month (5-1-1).
Shore opened the scoring with 4:14 remaining in the first period, carrying the puck down the right wing on a short-handed 2-on-1 rush and firing a shot from the faceoff circle that beat Fleury high to the glove side. The 22-year-old completed his first career two-goal performance at 13:34 of the second with a shot from low in the left circle.
Kulikov made it 3-0 just 77 seconds into the third as he grabbed the puck after Winchester's shot from the left point caromed off the end boards and backhanded it around Fleury from the top of the crease. Niskanen got Pittsburgh on the board at 5:11 with a one-timer from above the left circle, but Huberdeau was awarded his eighth goal after a lengthy video review with 6:10 remaining and Matthias tallied 12 seconds later to seal it.
