Blues 2, Coyotes 1: T.J. Oshie scored a pair of goals as host St. Louis sent Phoenix to its fourth consecutive defeat.
Jaroslav Halak turned aside 20 shots, including 16 in the final two periods, to lift the Blues to their eighth win in nine games. Captain David Backes assisted on both tallies for St. Louis, which held its seventh straight opponent to two goals or fewer.
Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the lone goal for the Coyotes, who lost for the sixth time in seven games. Goaltender Mike Smith made 16 saves to remain winless in his last nine appearances (0-5-2).
Oshie put the Blues on top midway through the opening period, moving in and blasting a slap shot from the right circle past Smith. Oshie doubled the lead on the power play at 12:54 of the second, sending a wrist shot from the point that got past Smith, who was screened by Jaden Schwartz.
Ekman-Larsson answered on the power play in the final minute of the period. He accepted a crossing pass from fellow defenseman Keith Yandle and beat Halak with a wrist shot from the right circle.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Oshie's two goals gave him a team-high 39 points, one more than the injured Alexander Steen. ... Ekman-Larsson scored for the second straight contest and extended his point streak to three games. ... Blues D Alex Pietrangelo picked up an assist on Oshie's first goal to give him nine points in a six-game streak.
