Capitals 5, Jets 4 (SO): Martin Erat scored in the sixth round of the shootout and captain Alex Ovechkin had two goals in regulation as visiting Washington continued its domination of Winnipeg.
Troy Brouwer also scored in regulation and added a goal in the bonus format as the Capitals beat the Jets for the fifth consecutive time and won their fourth straight game in Winnipeg. Braden Holtby made 43 saves and denied Evander Kane in the sixth round of the shootout, allowing Erat the chance to end it.
Mikhail Grabovski also had a goal and Nicklas Backstrom and Brooks Laich scored in the shootout in the opener of a five-game road trip for Washington. Bryan Little had a pair of goals and Blake Wheeler and defenseman Grant Clitsome added goals for the Jets, who also got three assists from captain Andrew Ladd and 28 saves from Ondrej Pavelec
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the floodgates opened in a six-goal second period - with Little and Clitsome scoring 70 seconds apart to trump Grabovski's tally. Ovechkin answered with a pair of goals in a 2:12 span, beating Pavelec on a breakaway before scoring off a faceoff, but Wheeler chipped a shot past Holtby to deadlock it at 3-3 with 39 seconds left in the period.
Washington's league-best power play finally converted when Backstrom weaved through Winnipeg's defense and slid a pass to Brouwer, who snapped a shot past Pavelec at 4:56. Once again the lead was short-lived as Little countered from the slot 2:08 later to deadlock it at 4-4.

Little registered his first two-goal game since March 20, 2012, while Ladd, C Olli Jokinen and RW Devin Setoguchi scored in the bonus format for the Jets. ...
