Sabres 4, Senators 2: Jochen Hecht set up the winning goal and added one of his own 12 seconds later as host Buffalo avoided a regular-season sweep by Ottawa.

Rookie Brian Flynn snapped a 2-2 tie with 5:23 remaining in the third period while Steve Ott and Luke Adam also scored for the Sabres, who have won two in a row following a four-game winless streak (0-2-2). Ryan Miller made 35 saves as Buffalo climbed within four points of eighth place in the Eastern Conference with 10 contests remaining.

Defensemen Marc Methot and Eric Gryba tallied for the Senators, who lost their third consecutive game and failed to sweep Buffalo for the first time in franchise history. Rookie Robin Lehner stopped 26 shots as Ottawa was unable to pass idle Toronto for fifth in the East. Both clubs have 44 points, with the Maple Leafs owning the tiebreaker.

Flynn received a cross-crease pass from Hecht and fired a backhand shot past a diving Lehner. Moments later, Hecht carried the puck to the left faceoff circle before spinning and wristing a backhander that sneaked between Lehner's pads.

Adam opened the scoring with a one-timer from the right circle 6:21 into the contest for his first goal since being recalled from the American Hockey League. Methot tied the game later in the first period and Gryba fired a shot from the slot through traffic to give Ottawa a 2-1 lead early in the third before Ott deflected Mark Pysyk’s shot to again knot the contest.
