Roope Hintz scored with 3:46 remaining in the third period as the host Dallas Stars snapped the Pittsburgh Penguins' 10-game win streak with a 3-2 decision on Saturday.
The Stars overcame an early two-goal deficit before Hintz caught Pittsburgh goaltender Tristan Jarry out of position just 1:15 after Joe Pavelski tied the game.
Denis Gurianov also scored, Jason Robertson had three assists and Jake Oettinger made 27 saves to send the Stars to their fourth straight win.
Defenseman Brian Dumoulin and Kasperi Kapanen each scored and Jarry turned aside 29 shots for the Penguins.
Shortly before the game, the Penguins learned they would be without top-line winger Bryan Rust and forward Brock McGinn because of COVID-19 protocol. Rust had five goals and four assists in his previous three games.
Dumoulin gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead at 6:02 of the first period on a shot from the left circle. Captain Sidney Crosby didn't provide a screen, but his presence near the crease appeared to serve as a distraction for the Stars.
Defenseman Kris Letang picked up his team-leading 27th assist on the play.
Pittsburgh went ahead 2-0 just 25 seconds later on Kapanen's goal.
Jeff Carter, just back from COVID-19 protocol, won a faceoff in the left circle back to defenseman Marcus Pettersson. Dallas reacted to Pettersson's fake, and he skated to his left before wiring the puck toward the net for Kapanen to deflect over Oettinger's glove.
The 2-0 lead after the first gave the Penguins a 19-1 combined advantage in the opening period since the start of their winning streak.
Gurianov got the only goal of the second period.
Gurianov retrieved the rebound of his initial shot before sending a rising shot past Jarry to pull the Stars to within 2-1 at 16:01.
At 14:59 of the third period, Pavelski forged a tie for Dallas after sweeping a rebound past Jarry's left skate.
