Bruins 2, Hurricanes 1: Patrice Bergeron scored the go-ahead goal late in the first period as Boston rebounded from a disastrous two-game road trip by skating to its fifth straight victory at TD Garden.
Rookie Seth Griffith also tallied and Tuukka Rask finished with 33 saves for the Bruins, who outscored Carolina by a 12-4 margin en route to sweeping the three-game season series in 2013-14. Brad Marchand notched his 100th career assist and defenseman Dennis Seidenberg also set up Bergeron's goal with 50 seconds remaining in the first.
Jiri Tlusty scored his team-leading seventh goal for the Hurricanes, who have dropped three of their last four (1-2-1). Cam Ward turned aside 23 shots and fell to 0-4-1 in his last five meetings with Boston.
Marchand collected a loose puck in the left corner and circled the net before setting up Bergeron, who one-timed a shot from the right circle that squeezed inside the near post to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead. Daniel Paille's potential insurance goal was disallowed with 8:51 remaining in the third, but Rask preserved the slim advantage by stopping all 15 shots in the session.
Tlusty deflected defenseman Justin Faulk's shot from above the right circle to open the scoring at 7:05 of the first period. Boston killed off a 5-on-3 disadvantage before Griffith benefited from Carolina blue-liner Andrej Sekera's flubbed backhanded pass in front of his own net and got enough of his stick on the shot to send the puck past Ward at 14:24 of the session.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Officials promptly waved off Paille's apparent goal in the third, citing that Boston C Gregory Campbell was stationed in the blue paint and prevented Ward from making a play on the puck. ... Carolina C Riley Nash saw his three-game point streak come to a halt. ... The Bruins matched a season high by allowing 16 shots in the first period and yielded a season-low three in the second.
