Christopher Tanev registered the tiebreaking goal and recorded three assists while Blake Coleman scored twice and had an assist as the Calgary Flames won their third game in a row, 4-2 over the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday night at Glendale, Ariz.
Elias Lindholm also scored and Andrew Mangiapane recorded two assists for the Flames, who outshot the Coyotes 50-28 to enter the All-Star break winners in five of six.
The game was tied 2-2 late in the second period before Tanev, a 32-year-old defenseman who began the night with 10 points through 41 games this season, wristed the puck through traffic and by Arizona netminder Karel Vejmelka (46 saves) at 15:15.
Tanev finished with the first four-point night of his 12-year career. Only once previously had he logged three points in a game.
Coleman, who opened the scoring 2:58 into the game, added some insurance on his 10th goal with 7:54 left in the game.
Clayton Keller extended his point streak to six games with a goal and an assist and Alex Galchenyuk scored in a second consecutive contest for the Coyotes, Arizona couldn't build on ending its five-game skid Tuesday, when it halted Colorado's 10-game winning streak with a 3-2 shootout victory.
Calgary recorded the game's first 12 shots on goal before the Coyotes notched their initial one after 5:52. However, following Coleman's first goal, Arizona tied the contest at 8:34 of the first as Galchenyuk deflected in Jakob Chychrun's shot from the near point.
The Flames went back ahead with just 10 seconds remaining in the first period. Behind the Coyotes' net, All-Star Johnny Gaudreau found Lindholm in enough of an open area to drive the puck past Vejmelka.
Calgary posted a 26-8 edge in shots through the first 20 minutes.
Once again, the Coyotes equalized, 4:14 into the second period. Off a Calgary turnover in its own zone, Nick Schmaltz found Keller, who one-timed a blast by Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom (26 saves) to make it a 2-2 game.
Calgary has won three of its past four road games. Meanwhile, Arizona fell to 5-16-1 at home this season -- the worst home mark in the NHL.
